Landline telephones are gradually dying out, although making long-distance calls from a landline phone is more profitable than from a mobile phone. The problem of organizing inexpensive communication with the world is solved using IP telephony.

What is the cheapest IP telephony for home and which provider should you prefer? there are a lot, everyone’s tariffs are different, so subscribers face typical difficulties - how to sort through dozens of tariff plans and choose the most optimal one? Our detailed review will tell you about the intricacies of choosing an IP operator and organizing home IP telephony.

IP telephony is characterized by fairly low communication tariffs. In long-distance directions, it has a significant advantage over traditional telephony, but a limited number of people know about these advantages. Meanwhile, using IP telephony, you can save money on paying for a landline phone.

Let's discuss whether it is needed at home? Installing and connecting a home telephone will cost a pretty penny, because for this you need not only to run wires into the apartment, but also to find out whether there are free pairs in the telephone cable. Telephone operators deal with these issues, although recently home telephones are most often connected via Internet channels.

A landline phone has more than enough disadvantages:

  • Long-term connection;
  • Mandatory subscription fee;
  • Binding to one address.

Traditional wired telephony is becoming obsolete, because it will no longer be possible to move with your number to another address - the number will most likely have to be changed. If the phone is connected via the Internet, then you can move anywhere with your number. By abandoning a landline telephone in favor of IP telephony, we will get:

  • No mandatory subscription fee;
  • Free calls within the provider's network;
  • Low tariffs for international destinations;
  • Lack of geographic and address reference.

In addition, if you are used to talking on the most ordinary landline phone, you don’t have to change your habits - buy one, connect a regular telephone to it and communicate as much as you like.

Do you talk long distance a lot and are amazed at the hefty bills for negotiations within your country? There is no need to “feed” the landline telephone operator - switch to IP telephony and communicate with all of Russia for mere pennies. You can also make international calls using cheap rates from IP telephony operators. For example, a minute of communication with the USA costs from 15 kopecks/min, depending on the selected operator. In this case, you do not need to pay a subscription fee.

Using a home phone connected to an IP telephony operator, you can not only make calls, but also receive calls. To do this, you can use a personal virtual city number or transfer the operator’s direct number (gateway) with an additional number to subscribers. But you need to remember that IP telephony for a home with a city number requires a subscription fee.

An interesting feature of IP telephony is that a minute of long-distance communication can cost less than a local connection - a great way to save money. For example, a minute of communication with the United States costs, on average, two times cheaper than with Russian numbers.

Are you interested in IP telephony for your home with a landline number? Then the Zadarma operator will be the best option - it provides direct city virtual numbers in many Russian cities. If a direct number is not needed, then they will call you using an additional number.

An example of setting up telephony using the example of Zadarma

As an example, let's try to set up a proprietary softphone (application) for Windows. Download it from here, install it, launch it and enter the authorization data - this is the username and password.

We take the username in your personal account, in the “Settings – SIP Connection” section. From here we take the password. A login with a password from the personal account itself is not suitable for authorization.

IP phones are more difficult to configure; as an example, let's look at setting up an IP handset from Panasonic. Go to the handset menu and turn on the web interface – “Menu – IP Service – Network Settings – Built-in. WEB", select "on", return to the previous section and look at the IP address assigned to the handset. Now you need to go to its web interface at the specified address - for example, http://192.168.0.12/.

Go to the “VoIP” tab and configure line 1 in accordance with the following parameters:

  • Phone number: SIP number from your personal account (see username above).
  • Line ID: SIP number from LAN;
  • Server address registrar: sip.zadarma.com;
  • Proxy server address: sip.zadarma.com;
  • Sending proxy server address: sip.zadarma.com;
  • Service domain: sip.zadarma.com;
  • Identification ID: SIP number from the personal account.
  • Identification password: password for the SIP number.
  • Allowed SSAF (Resource SIP Address Filter): Yes.

How to find out the username and password is shown in the example of setting up the Zadarma softphone. The end result should be approximately what is shown in the screenshot.

And settings for other applications and telephones are presented. A useful tip is to not touch other settings unless you know what they are for.

What equipment will you need?

If you decide to use IP telephony, then you will be interested to know what equipment is needed to organize communication. The simplest option is a computer with a headset. We connect to the Internet, install a soft IP phone on the computer, enter the settings into it, after which we can start making calls.

Connect the adapter to the Internet, set up a connection with your provider and make as many calls as you like. If you don't want to spend money on buying a SIP adapter, you can use your mobile phone. We install a softphone on it, enter the IP operator settings, connect to the network and start talking.

This method is convenient because you can stay in touch wherever there is mobile Internet - telephony works reliably even at the lowest network access speed (a channel of 64-128 kbit/sec is sufficient).

IP and IT telephony are essentially the same thing. This type of telephony is becoming more popular every day. Until recently, the Internet and the telephone were completely different things that could not be united in any way. Now, IP (IT) telephony has appeared. This is a type of communication thanks to which a user of a personal computer can easily call relatives, friends or colleagues without leaving his workplace. In this case, communication with another user will be carried out using the Internet itself or some other IP network.

History of appearance and use

The communication technology itself appeared a long time ago, back in the 80s. IP telephony technology began to be actively distributed and used already in 1995. The technologies that were used before are no match for what is used today. For example, sound compression was previously carried out using GSM technologies. Until recently, this technology was not used in any way in Russia, and in the United States of America it began to be used only about 7 years ago. Today, completely different technologies are used to transmit information (including audio compression and decompression), which take IP telephony to a completely different level.

Advantages of IP telephony

This type of communication has many advantages. For example, from an economic point of view, a person will spend much less money on making such calls using IP telephony. This will be even more relevant if a person makes long-distance or international calls quite often. The next advantage is that a person can easily make a call either to the interlocutor’s computer or to a telephone. In order to use IP telephony, you need to connect special gateways for IP telephony. With the help of these gateways, the user gets the opportunity to make a call to both the phone and the computer. The principle of operation of such telephony is that this gateway, which on the one hand must be connected to the telephone, and on the other to the IP network, receives a special signal and digitizes it. Then, after this process is completed, the incoming signal is divided into special data packets and compressed to the optimal size. This data is then sent to a special address.
