A program for updating programs on a PC. Automatic program update or program for updating programs on a PC

Not long ago we talked about it, but we left out one small factor that sometimes speeds it up significantly. And it also eats up traffic. This is an automatic application update. As soon as your phone or tablet connects to the Internet, all the software installed on it breaks into the network and downloads, downloads, downloads.

If auto-update is disabled, other incidents are possible. For example, you are waiting for a letter/message/notification, but it doesn’t come because an outdated program cannot receive it. Isn't it time to take control of this process into your own hands? Let's talk about how to enable, disable, and configure automatic app updates on Android and iOS.

Setting up software updates in Android

On Android, the auto-update feature for programs via the Google Play Store is enabled by default and is activated only when connected to Wi-Fi networks. On the one hand, this is correct, since expensive 3G/4G traffic is not consumed, but on the other hand, it is unsafe. If you connect to a public network without security, for example, using , you risk your personal data, which at this time may be intercepted.

To change the settings for checking and downloading application updates via Google Play, do the following:

  • Launch the Market and go to its settings.

  • Open the section " Automatic application updates».

  • Check the desired auto-update option: " Only byWi-Fi», « Any network" or " Never" and press " Ready».

By the way, even if you disable this function, you will still be able to check and install software updates manually. To do this, go through the Google Play settings in “ My apps and games", open the tab " Updates» and tap the rounded arrow circled in the screenshot below. Near programs and games for which a new version has been released, “ Update».

The auto-update function is also available in alternative software and content stores for Android, in particular in F-Droid. Its parameters are also set in the settings section, and there are even more of them in F-Droid than in Google Play.

In particular, the following update settings are available here:

  • Interval between installations (from hourly to never).
  • Check when connected to Wi-Fi. Options: use always, use only for loading, do not use at all.
  • Check when connecting to a mobile network. The options are the same.
  • Download and install in the background with notifications shown.
  • Notifications about new releases and version history.

To check and install updates manually, tap the “ Updates" in the bottom panel of F-Droid. Software for which new versions have been released will appear on the screen as a list. Next to each program there will be a button “ Update»

To install automatic software updates from F-Droid and other third-party markets, do not forget to allow unknown sources in the security settings of your Android device.

Automatic and manual software updates in iOS

On iOS, the auto software update feature is also enabled by default. But unlike Android, the operating system of iPhones and iPads allows you to configure it for each individual application that supports this feature.

To activate auto-update of all installed software, do the following:

  • Launch the settings utility and open " iTunesStore andAppStore».
  • In chapter " Automatic downloads» turn on « Programs" And " Updates».

By default, content will only download when the device is connected to Wi-Fi. If you don’t mind downloading “updates” via 3G/4G networks, enable the “ Cellular data", which is located below in the same section.

If you intend to prohibit or, conversely, allow only some programs to install updates automatically, open the settings section " Basic" and go to " Content Update" Move the sliders to the off position next to apps that you don't want to update.

The same function is available in the individual settings of each program that supports receiving “updates”.

Manual checking and downloading of iOS program updates is available through the App Store and iTunes content stores. To do this through the App Store, just connect your device to the Internet, open the “ Updates" and click the " button next to the desired applications Update».

The iTunes market allows you to update software on iPhone and iPad via your computer. More precisely, it allowed until recently, since its current version, 12.7, no longer supports this function. To get it back, you will have to remove the new one and install an older release of tuna, for example, 12.6.3, which, fortunately, is easy to find on the Internet.

Once iTunes is open, connect your Apple mobile device to your computer and sign in to your account. Open the section " Programs" and click the " Check for updates" The next window will display shortcuts to applications for which the latest versions have been released. Next, just click next to the desired shortcut button “ Update».

Good day!

On Android, all installed applications are periodically updated (usually when the phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network) - in Windows there is no such thing.

This is probably why many users have had “old” programs running for years (with one side, it seems that if it works, you don’t have to touch it; With the other one- new software versions work more stable; a number of errors have been corrected; New features have been added to speed up your productivity).

In this modest note I wanted to offer a small utility that easily and quickly solves this problem - i.e. it itself will find new versions of programs and update them (similar to Google Play on Android).

Optimizing Windows 10 to improve computer performance -

Auto-update programs

And so, this utility is IObit Software Updater. Once installed, it will quickly find and learn everything about all the programs (available on your system), determine their versions and compare them with the newest ones. Then it will tell you which programs should be updated and which ones should be left alone...

IObit Software Updater

Specialist. utility for updating and installing programs. It has a simple interface, support for thousands of different software, translated into Russian, and is compatible with Windows 7/8/10.

Main advantages:

  • the utility works quietly and quickly (you are required to agree to install updates once a month, if they are required);
  • it is possible to roll back to previous versions of programs (Software Updater makes backups for each operation);
  • the utility has a catalog of programs: browsers, multimedia, antiviruses, etc. (you can install any of them in 1 click);
  • when updating the software, no windows pop up (i.e., for each updated program it is unnecessary to specify the installation location, whether to create a shortcut, etc.).

I'll show you the update process using a simple example. After installing and launching IObit Software Updater, you will see a list of installed programs. All of them will be divided into several groups: those that do not need updating, and those for which they were found.

Please note that opposite each program the current version is indicated, and the one to which it can be updated. You can update both all programs at once (which you can tick), or one specific one (for example, I chose Gom Player, see the screenshot below).

The update process itself is standard:

  1. First, the program installation files are downloaded;
  2. then a backup copy is made. If something doesn't work right, you can roll back to the previous version;
  3. then, installation. Please note that in this entire process you do not see any question windows - everything is automated (which is very convenient).

By the way, the program icon on the desktop is also very indicative: it displays the number of programs that are time to update. Therefore, even without launching the utility, you will always know what is there according to the updates...

IObit Software Updater also has a built-in program directory. To open it, simply click on the “star” in the menu on the left. Everything you need is at hand: browsers, multimedia, communication, security (antiviruses, firewalls), etc.

Installing programs is identical to updating: you tick the boxes that you need and start the process. Screenshot below.

If something went wrong...

IObit Software Updater, as mentioned above, has a built-in backup system. When you update something, a backup copy is made. If you are not satisfied with something, just go to the menu "Recovery" , then select the required backup (based on date) and start the recovery procedure...

That's all for today, good luck!

Many users install new applications from the Play Market on their Android smartphone. It happens that a user suddenly notices that a friend has exactly the same application that works differently than his. More precisely, a friend has new features and capabilities in the application, but for some reason our user does not have them. The user has serious doubts that he is using the updated application of the latest version. The question arises, how to update the application on Android?

Rice. 7. Click “Accept” to give Yandex.Mail permission to use device resources

Click “Accept”, the application update begins, this will take some time.

You can find out which applications are updated and which are not in the Play Market, “My Applications” option, “Updates” tab:

Rice. 8. Message in the Play Market that the Yandex.Mail application has been updated

Setting Up Update Notifications

It happens that update messages arrive completely inappropriately and you want to turn them off. You can turn off the sound that occurs when such updates appear, or block them from receiving them.

To turn off notifications, you need to open the Play Market settings. To do this, you need to follow the steps described above in Figures 1-3. When the “My apps and games” option is open on your Android smartphone, you need to scroll (scroll) the window down so that “Settings” appears (Fig. 9):

Rice. 9. Play Market settings

Open “Settings” Google Play Market, and click “Alerts” (1 in Fig. 10):

Rice. 10. Update notification settings. Application auto-update settings.

Having opened “Alerts”, check the checkboxes. If you DO NOT want to receive notifications about the availability of updates for applications, you need to uncheck the box next to “Updates” (1 in Fig. 11). Also in this case, you should uncheck the box next to “Automatic update” (2 in Fig. 11):

Rice. 11. Check/uncheck the boxes for notifications about updates and for automatic application updates

If you uncheck the boxes, you should not receive notifications about the availability of updates and about automatic updates.

We configure automatic application updates to save Internet traffic

Everyone chooses their own settings for automatic application updates. In Fig. 12 “Only via Wi-Fi” option is selected. It's convenient to

Most software updates are automatic by default. But, nevertheless, you should know how to check for updates and update the program yourself. By keeping your computer software up to date, you increase the stability and security of your computer.

Operating system update

Installing the latest operating system updates is one of the most important processes in protecting your computer from viruses, malware, and other online security threats.

Windows

To update Windows OS, open Control Panel. In the search bar type update and select "Check for updates".

The installation may take significantly longer than searching for updates, so during this time you can break away from your computer and grab a cup of coffee. Once the installation is complete, you must restart your computer for the updates to take effect.

Mac OS x

To update Mac OS X, open the App Store and click the Updates button in the top bar. OS X updates will be at the top of the list of available updates. On the right side of the screen there are buttons for updating individual applications and an "Update All" button to apply all available updates.

Software updates

For many programs, regular updates are not that important, since they will only come with some improvements or new features, but not security improvements, so there is no need to update them frequently. However, for more essential software, such as a web browser or antivirus software, updates are just as important as operating system updates.

Most programs automatically check for updates. If there are updates, the program will notify you about it. Well, for other programs, study the program menu yourself and find out how to start the update.

For example, Kaspersky antivirus: you can start the update in the control center.

I personally have always been very skeptical about magical auto-updates for software installed in the Windows operating system. I got used to checking for new versions on my own and manually updating outdated programs.

It’s just that a few years ago I had a sad experience - one similar software very cheerfully updated several excellent programs with some versions with toolbars and Trojans. Since then I have avoided software “auto-updaters”.

IObit Software Updater - update programs on time

But lately I’ve noticed that automatic is free updating programs in Windows is becoming a very popular area among famous software manufacturers. I invite you to try one of the best such utilities with me - IObit Software Updater.

The famous manufacturer promises and guarantees us automatic updates of installed programs on the PC. Shall we check?

It is very important to update computer programs in a timely manner, because firstly, outdated software is just a godsend for hackers, and secondly, software manufacturers fix all the slightest defects and errors in the latest versions of their products, thereby ensuring their smooth, fast and correct operation .

Agree, constantly keeping all the dozens of programs installed on your computer up to date manually is not very convenient (to put it mildly).

Of course, many modern utilities already have built-in functions for checking for new versions, but this approach generates a lot of constant multidirectional traffic. There are a large number of users for whom this state of affairs is completely unsuitable; they do not need the continuous uncontrolled wild activity of the computer and the software installed on it.

This is why utilities for automatically checking and updating computer programs, which can be run periodically in a controlled manner, for example, only if there is a fast and free Internet, are becoming increasingly popular.

Of course, most of all, you and I are accustomed to trusting eminent and time-tested software manufacturers, among whom IObit deservedly belongs.

Installing IObit Software Updater

The fact is that in most cases, under such inconspicuous items, there are hidden checkboxes indicating consent to the installation of “useful” additional software. Let's check the "greed" of the IObit comrades...

No, friends - everything is pure and honest. This is really pleasing and inspires confidence in the authors of the automatic software updater. In this section of the installer, you can only change the installation folder and create icons on the desktop and taskbar.

How programs are checked and automatically updated

Immediately after launch, the IObit Software Updater program will simply instantly scan the entire computer and, having learned the entire list of installed programs, check the availability of their new versions on official websites. The verdict of this check will not take long - it will appear in a clear and visual form...

No matter how I tried to keep track of the relevance of absolutely all the programs installed on my long-suffering laptop, I still missed a couple, as you can see (which is what I talked about above, reflecting on the usefulness of such digital assistants).

It’s scary to mindlessly click on the “Update” button, so I turn it into a small triangle...

Again, there are no pitfalls - everything is logical and understandable. I click on “Update”...

The process of downloading the newest version of the popular . After which a preliminary prompt will pop up before installing the update - a very reasonable precaution (not all updates are installed smoothly the first time and not all are useful, unfortunately)...

As you can see, I am a very brave and desperate guy - I have this service completely disabled (I absolutely do NOT advise inexperienced users to repeat this feat).

Further surprises and problems relate exclusively to the μTorrent installer. I can imagine how the poor people hiccup from the “good” wishes addressed to them from all users.

In this window you need to click on “Decline” so as not to become the “lucky” owner of another defender in the Windows operating system ()...

Another attempt to make us happy with additional software (uncheck the box)…

Finally!

What’s surprising is that they didn’t ask me where to install the new version of the torrent client and didn’t ask me to change its basic parameters. I didn’t have to re-adjust the updated program for myself - that’s nice.

Once such a dance began, I gave IObit Software Updater complete carte blanche...

And here is the price of freeness - the program scanned the operating system in the background and unobtrusively offered to use partially paid products exclusively of its own production...

Automatic batch installation of popular computer programs

In addition to checking for new versions of already installed software on your computer and automatically updating it, the IObit Software Updater utility kindly helps you batch install popular computer programs among users from trusted official sources.

In the main window of the utility, click on the small monitor with an asterisk (which lives on the left). Select the programs you want to install and check the boxes next to them - click the big blue “Install now” button...

Setting up IObit Software Updater

There is nothing complicated in the settings of our automatic program update search engine...
