1. Check the compatibility of your devices

2. Should I update old devices?
If you have a new or relatively new device, then the answer is clear - yes. But what about the “oldies”? iOS 9 can be installed on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s, but, in fact, they didn’t grab the stars from the sky on iOS 8 either. What will happen on iOS 9?
Some users report the successful operation of “older” iPhones and iPads on iOS 9, but, given the experience of past years, we can say the opposite. Decreased performance, decreased autonomy, slowdowns - you shouldn’t be surprised by these phenomena if you decide to update your “old man”. We recommend that owners of iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad mini think twice before clicking the “Install update” button.
3. Update apps and remove unnecessary ones
Cleaning up your iPhone or iPad before upgrading to iOS 9 is a great idea. In fact, this is optional, but very desirable. Installing updates is also important because developers always add support for new features before major iOS updates.
Go through the folders on your desktops and give them a good shake. Also check the Updates tab in the App Store and install any available updates.
4. Make a backup
Most likely, you regularly make backup copies of your iOS devices, but it won’t hurt to remind you of this once again, especially before upgrading to iOS 9. There are two backup options: via iCloud directly from the device or via iTunes. Choose either one, but better play it safe and use both.
5. Install iOS 9!

Tomorrow Apple will release iOS 9, and a notification will appear on your iPhone or iPad asking you to update. You will only need to go to settings and install it.

The firmware installs quickly, but it can take a long time to download over WiFi, since it depends not only on your Internet connection speed, but also on the load on Apple’s servers.

Create a backup
To avoid losing personal information (photos, contacts, notes, reminders, calendars, email account settings), backup your iOS device before updating.
Clear memory

Create a 6-digit lock password
As you know, a simple iPhone lock password is 4 digits, but in iOS 9 Apple made it 6 digits. On the one hand, this is good because it will better protect your iPhone or iPad in case of theft, but on the other hand, it is bad because it is more difficult to remember 6 digits, which means it is easier to forget such a password.
If you've forgotten your iPhone lock password, you can reset it. In this case, the contents of the device are permanently deleted. You can only restore data from a backup copy.
Turn off Find My iPhone
This is relevant if your device is linked to an Apple ID to which you do not have access (the account of a friend or the first owner). If you don’t know the password for your Apple ID, which is connected in the settings of your iPhone or iPad in the “iCloud” menu, you won’t be able to update iOS via iTunes in the usual way—to do this, you need to disable the “Find My iPhone” function. Updating iOS over Wi-Fi is easier, but takes longer (iOS boots over Wi-Fi) and is not recommended when moving between generations of iOS, as it often subsequently causes problems with device performance.

But on the 4s display you will already have to scroll - but in the “eight” everything somehow fit on one screen.

As you can see, the only advantage of switching to “nine” is a slightly faster launch of the Camera. On the other hand, the delays when updating from iOS 7 to iOS 8 were much more serious.
Feelings of working with iPhone 4s running iOS 9 - approximately the same as on the G8. There are still small delays when launching applications. On the same iPhone 5, everything works much more lively.

Is it worth upgrading to iOS 9?
If your iPhone 4s works on iOS 8 - definitely yes! The screen will be even less convenient than before, but nothing has changed in terms of operating speed, and more than enough interesting features have appeared in iOS 9 - which is worth the updated keyboard alone.

Do you still prefer iOS 7? In this case, an update can also be done.
