Startup unnecessary programs in Windows 7. How to remove unnecessary programs from startup

How to disable startup programs m starting with the operating system? Hello admin! Two months ago I installed two operating systems, Windows 7 and Windows 8, and now they both slow down and freeze, and take forever to load.

In Windows 7, I launched the built-in msconfig utility, went to the “Startup” item and disabled everything there: Skype (a program for communicating over the Internet), Download Master (a file downloader), DAEMON Tools Lite (working with ISO images), Zune Launcher (a program for phone) and so on, by the way, I found one virus. Two weeks later I looked at startup, and some programs were there again. Do you know why this is so? I worked with all these programs for two weeks and upon startup they again installed their services in startup. What to do? My computer is powerful and can handle it, but it’s still a shame, a month ago Windows loaded in 15 seconds, but now it takes 40 seconds.
. The situation with it is better, after two weeks only a few programs returned to autoload without permission, but the programs that I reinstalled all quietly went into autoload.

Following your advice, I installed the AnVir Task Manager program, launched it, the program is good and does not allow anything to autoload and warns about everything, but what’s interesting is that I found the All Records tab in this program, and was stunned, there are 500 records there, and that’s all I have in startup! Andrey.

How to disable startup programs

Hello friends, it’s quite easy to disable startup of any program; you can do this using the “msconfig” utility in Windows 7 and the Task Manager in Windows 8. In addition, you can go into the settings of any program and uncheck the “Run when Windows starts” option. .

Another thing is a little more difficult - to prevent a certain program from being installed into startup on your computer, and this cannot be done without one good free program.

The whole secret is that most programs, when installed on your computer, will not ask your permission to go into startup, it will just go through and that’s it, and you won’t even know about it.

Today I will tell you two interesting stories, and at the same time we will find out how to disable startup programs in the Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems and how to prevent the program from starting up again.
If you have reinstalled the operating system and are actively using it - installing various programs, drivers (printer, scanner, camera...), antiviruses, and so on, then literally after a month there are so many of these programs that loading Windows is very slow. And the most important thing is that users simply do not know (and most are not interested) where to find all these programs that slow down the loading of the operating system; they only realize it after Windows starts loading and working very slowly.

In Windows 7, you can disable startup programs using the msconfig utility built into the operating system.
Start, Run, msconfig,

In Windows 8, you can disable a program from startup directly in the Task Manager in a special Startup tab. For example, remove the Skype program from startup, call the Task Manager,

In my opinion, the most important mistake of users is that they control the startup of programs only using the tools built into Windows, which cannot show all the programs that are in startup, and even more so cannot stop the services of programs included in startup. When users install the AnVir Task Manager program, specially created to control startup, and see everything that is actually going on in their startup, they remain in shock for a long time after that, watching numerous unnecessary services and processes, sometimes even remote programs.
To emphasize the seriousness of the situation, I want to tell you this. Working for several years on the Windows 7 operating system, which had a licensed antivirus with the latest updates installed, a firewall and the AnVir Task Manager program (a program that monitors startup, which will be discussed later), I found myself in this situation about once a week. Working on the Internet, I often had to go to unfamiliar sites (like all of you), sometimes in search of drivers, and sometimes for necessary information. So, during the day I was browsing a lot of sites and being on some web pages, harmless at first glance, the AnVir Task Manager program installed on me (which controls startup) quite often signaled me with this window:

saying that an unfamiliar program is rushing into my startup, and this is with complete silence and connivance. Such programs, my friends, are nothing more than a complete virus.
I foresee your question, what will happen if you don’t have the AnVir Task Manager program and the program quietly goes into startup? And it will be approximately what I described in my articles “” and “”. This is how we catch viruses with you.
True, with the advent of the Windows 8 operating system, the situation has become a little better; all programs that are in startup can already be seen more clearly in the Task Manager in the Startup tab. The system, according to Microsoft, is better protected and so on. Although a small problem remains. All programs, when installed, still quietly go into startup.

I’ll tell you another interesting case, in which I’ll tell you in detail how to disable startup programs.

One of my classmates asked me to reinstall his operating system and install a package of free programs. Three months ago, he purchased a laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed. His entire family used this laptop, even without each family member. And now the laptop freezes, takes a long time to load and slows down. My friend agreed to my proposal not to reinstall the system, but to figure out the reason for the long loading time of the system.
To see all the programs that are in the startup of the new Windows 8 operating system, launch the Task Manager and select the Startup item. Friends, we look carefully at everything that is in my friend’s autoload, as we see what is not there. Please note that he even has two antiviruses installed

And this despite the fact that the Windows 8 system also has a built-in one, which can also work. Of course, in this case the computer will not boot in 4 seconds. My friend claims that he installed the second antivirus just for fun and then deleted it. But the facts indicate the opposite, the antivirus program works, we remove the second antivirus program correctly, through the “Install or change a program” panel

A more interesting picture of startup will open if we install the AnVir Task Manager program, official website http://www.anvir.net/. If after reading our article you want to download and install this program, then be sure to read our article, it contains a more detailed description of working with the utility.

Note: if you open the “All entries” item, then all files, drivers, services, registry keys will open, that is, quite redundant information for a novice user, but in fact you can figure it out (for example, I have about four hundred in startup all sorts of codecs and filters for working with video).

1) Drivers for C-Media sound card. It’s quite strange how they got here, because the built-in sound card on my friend’s Realtek computer, we disable the C-Media drivers from startup or remove them altogether.

2) DAEMON Tools Lite is a good program for creating disk images and emulating virtual CD/DVD drives. They use it once a week, so it is not needed in autoload either.

3) The Download Master program is needed to download files, but the owner of the computer does not even know about it and has never used it, disable the program from startup, if necessary, launch it manually.

4) Skype (a program for communicating via the Internet), if you don’t use it all the time, uncheck it.

5) The process ZuneLauncher.exe belongs to the Zune program from Microsoft. Using this program, you can exchange files and synchronize music, images, video files on your computer and phone running Windows Phone. The strangest thing is that my friend has a Samsung phone based on Android, and so does his wife and child, which means he doesn’t need the Zune program at all. Disable the program from startup or, better yet, delete it.

In “Services” at the very top there are two services related to the HP laser printer; we will not touch these services. The TeamViewer 8 service, which belongs to the very good remote access program TeamViewer, is also available here in startup (for those interested, read the article). But unfortunately, my friend doesn’t remember exactly who installed it and why. We remove it from startup, if necessary, you can start it like that, disable it from startup.

That's basically it.

We reboot the computer and after the reboot our Windows 8 literally came to life. In my opinion, all the problems were caused by the second antivirus program.

But what do we see, all our programs removed from startup ask to go there again, we kick them out through the door, and they climb out the window, what a misfortune.

Check the box Don't ask again about this startup item and click Delete. If you want, send the program to quarantine.
If you want to return the desired program to startup, you can do this in the settings of the AnVir Task Manager program.

In this way, with the help of this program you will instantly bring order to your startup.

Articles on this topic.

The Windows platform has a peculiarity - simultaneously with the launch of the operating system itself, programs are automatically loaded, without which it is not able to function properly correctly. These include various system services and programs. However, third-party programs are often added to this set of mandatory startup programs.

This is due to developers who include a default startup option in their programs. And it’s clear that when an antivirus is equipped with such an option, this program should really always be running in the background. But there are a lot of other programs that launch simultaneously with the PC boot, at a time when there is no urgent need for this. Over time, a large number of them accumulate, which negatively affects the speed of the PC. In this article we will tell you how to remove startup programs in Windows 7.

How to remove autoloading in the program itself?

First of all, it’s worth saying that you can get rid of the program’s autoloading directly through the settings of the program itself. Let's look at this feature using the example of the µTorrent program - an application for downloading various content from the Internet, which is probably installed on every user and which, by default, usually starts when Windows boots. I think everyone will agree that this program should not hang in the background; when you want to download, for example, a movie, you just quickly open it.

So, how to disable auto-download in µTorrent? Follow these instructions:

1. Launch µTorrent.

3. Now click on the “General” tab and in the “Windows Integration” section, uncheck the “Run µTorrent with Windows” box and click “OK”.

4. That's it! µTorrent should now stop downloading at the same time as Windows.

Of course, we understand that µTorrent is only a special case, and if you want to disable autoloading for another program, these instructions will not help you, and therefore we will look at how you can get rid of autoloading in Windows in other ways.

How to remove startup from the Start menu?

The easiest general way to get rid of startup programs is through the Start menu. To perform this procedure:

3. Open the “Startup” folder by left-clicking on it once, and you will see which programs start with the system.

4. Right-click on each of the programs one by one and select “Uninstall”.

5. Done!

This is a very simple way to remove startup programs in Windows, however, it does not work for all programs; for some reason, not every application that starts on the PC automatically when the system boots is “registered” in this folder, and therefore, in order to carry out a complete cleanup, you should pin it success through other tools.

How to remove startup via MSCONFIG?

Windows 7 has a special “System Configuration” tool, through which you can configure, in particular, startup. How to do it? Follow the instructions below:

1. Press the Windows keys (usually the windows logo key) + R, a window will appear in which you need to write MSCONFIG and press OK.

2. In the “System Configuration” window that opens, click the “Startup” section and you will see all the programs that start simultaneously with the system boot.

3. To remove a particular program from startup, you just need to uncheck the box opposite the program.

4. After making changes, do not forget to click OK (screenshot above).

Unfortunately, many users claim that this utility also does not always allow you to eliminate all unnecessary startup programs once and for all. If this method did not help, there is still one more way to get rid of programs that launch without permission - deleting startup programs through the registry. This method, in turn, can be divided into two - manual removal through the registry and through the Autorun program, let’s consider both:

— removing startup programs manually through the registry:

1. Press the Windows + R keys, a window will open, in it you need to write regedit, then click OK.

2. The “Registry Editor” window will open, you need to find two Run folders. First, open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, then go to Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion/Run. Delete all contents from the Run folder.

3. Now you need to remember to find the second Run folder, to do this, first open HKEY_CURRENT_USER, and then follow the path similar to that specified in paragraph 2 of these instructions - Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion/Run and also delete all contents from this Run folder.

4. Done!

— removing startup programs via Autoruns:

To remove startup programs from the registry using Autoruns:

1. Download the program Autoruns, install and run.

The program will download as an archive, it will contain four files, you need to run autorunsc.exe and wait until the installation takes place in automatic mode.

2. To open the program, double-click on the file from the Autoruns.exe archive (or right-click and select “Run as administrator”). When the program opens, click the Everything tab, in it you will see all the startup programs.

3. To remove a particular program, you just need to uncheck the box next to it.

To delete or not to delete – that is the question?

At the beginning of the article, we said that without autoloading a number of special programs into Windows, the system will not function properly. This means that when you remove programs from startup, don’t overdo it. If you are sure that this program is unnecessary, delete it; if you have even the slightest doubt about the program - you don’t know what it is responsible for and what consequences its removal may lead to, you should not delete it.

So, we have studied a lot of ways to remove startup in Windows 7, we hope that one of them will certainly help you deal with your problem!

When starting Windows, it can be useful, and sometimes it’s simply necessary. Some system utilities must be running before the user starts running his own programs. True, the autorun process of such programs is not controlled by the user, and is the prerogative of the Windows kernel.

But other utilities can be placed in Windows autostart by the user himself or automatically placed there by installers. In this case, the user has the opportunity to disable autoloading of such software and remove it from autorun. How to disable autorun programs in Windows 7? We will figure this out below.

The convenience of placing some programs into Windows startup is undeniable. It is advisable to have some of them on hand all the time and not waste time launching them manually. These, for example, are torrent clients, antiviruses and other continuous software. On the other hand, some software is placed in autorun for no reason at all. As a result, many users wonder: where does so much computer RAM go? Often memory is “eaten away” by programs launched when Windows starts.

Looking at the list of running processes in the Task Manager, you can be horrified - so many processes are running at the same time. Which of them are really important for normal, comfortable work, and which ones can be sacrificed? Some of these processes are operating system services, which are not always critical. And some are user processes. This is the last one we will deal with.

From theory to practice

To disable autorun of a user utility, you can do different things. The following can be considered a reference method:

  • Go to the Start menu.
  • Select the item “All programs”.
  • We remove the annoying program from there. Thus, we will be able to disable its self-start when Windows starts.

If you have such a desire, you can completely clean out this entire folder - then no software will start when the system starts. But this is already the most radical method.

An alternative to the above method to disable self-start is to use the MSConfig system utility. It consists of the following:

  • In the “Start” => “Run” window, enter the command: msconfig.
  • The “System Configuration” window appears in front of us.
  • In this window, go to the “Startup” tab.
  • To disable the automatic activation of individual programs, you need to uncheck the boxes next to them.

As you can see, Windows does not provide the only way to prevent programs from starting automatically. But that's not all. There are at least two more ways to disable autorun. Firstly, you can edit the corresponding entries in the system registry, and secondly, you can disable autorun of the program using third-party software. Discussing editing the registry is not part of our plans, but the free Autoruns utility is worth mentioning. Not so much because of its high functionality, although this is present, but because of its attractive appearance. You can download the program at: http://download.sysinternals.com/files/Autoruns.zip. With its help, you can disable or remove anything from Windows startup.

A number of other programs and services have this capability. This helps optimize work with important applications, such as those that must be active at all times.

Sometimes an excessive number of self-starting programs becomes a consequence long-term activation of the OS .

This happens because some applications add themselves to the startup list without the user's knowledge.

In this case, you should completely disable the unnecessary function. Let's look at several ways to remove programs from startup.

System startup folder

You can add almost any executable file to autorun. The easiest way is to move it (or the shortcut) to the system startup folder.

IN Windows 7 it can be found in the Start menu, after clicking the All Programs button. Towards the end of the list there will be a Startup folder. Removing from it means canceling autorun.

This is the easiest way to disable autorun, but not the most effective. Many applications duplicate this function in other system sections.

If there is a startup mark on another system partition, simply deleting the program from their startup folder will not help.

In addition, removing applications from startup via the Start menu is only applicable for a specific active user.

Editing common to all users can be done in the system folder Programm Data, which is on drive C.

Once you open it, you will need to follow this path: Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

Using System Configuration

A more reliable way to remove or add programs to startup is to configure the OS settings.

Its use is more likely to help disable the autorun of certain programs. Now let's learn more about how to open the system configuration window and change startup settings:

Important! This section may contain important system programs, without which the functioning of the computer will be unstable. Therefore, you need to carefully look at which services are enabled and which are disabled. If you are not completely sure of the functions of a particular service, it is better not to touch it.

In most cases, this is enough to eradicate an unwanted program from startup.

But the most cunning programs duplicate marks about their location in the system registry. Next, everything is a little more detailed.

Cleaning the system registry

The system registry is an important part of the OS. You need to be very careful when deleting files there; one small deleted file can lead to disastrous consequences.

Therefore, you need to try to follow the instructions below as closely as possible:

As many may have noticed, when you turn on the computer, some programs start automatically. This fact has a double meaning. On the one hand, this is good, because you don’t have to start programs manually, especially those that must be turned on all the time, such as antivirus or.

But on the other hand, when you turn on the computer, programs for which there is no such need may be launched, and this also slows down the computer boot. After all, the more programs that are launched when you turn it on, the slower it loads.

In this article you will learn how to disable startup programs using Windows 7 as an example, although the method works on Windows OS.

System Configuration - the best way to disable startup programs in Windows

So, to disable automatic loading of programs through the operating system configurator, you need to type the service word in the Start menu search or through the Run window msconfig.

Running msconfig on Windows 7

In the search results, click on the icon msconfig(System Configuration) right-click and select “Run as administrator” from the menu. By the way, the same.

The system configurator window will open. We are interested in the ““ tab.

Here you will see all the programs on your computer or laptop that load automatically when the operating system boots.

In Windows 10, there is a special section in the task manager to manage startup programs, which will be written about in the startup tab in the configurator. A link to it will also be provided.

In order to disable the automatic launch of a particular program, you just need to find it in the list of the “” tab and uncheck the box next to it.

Disabling autorun programs in Windows 7

After all editions of the list of startup programs, press the button " Apply" And " OK"at the bottom of the window.

After this, the programs you marked will not automatically load with Windows.
