Why is your iPod frozen? How to restart iPhone, iPad and iPod touch from any state (7 methods) iPod frozen and won’t turn off

Method No. 1

Press and hold the iPhone's power button (aka "Power") until large "Shut Down" and "Cancel" buttons appear;

Touch the red “Power off” button on the left side of the iPhone screen and, without lifting your finger from the surface of the screen, swipe the button to its right edge. This gesture is called “Swipe” (from the English Swipe - to carry out without taking it off). The iPhone will begin to turn off.
Wait until the device screen goes completely dark and briefly press the "Power" button. The Apple logo will appear on the display and the iPhone will begin booting in normal mode.

Method No. 2

Discharge the device and then connect it to a power source to turn it back on, but this method takes time, especially if the battery is fully charged. To speed up the charging process, turn the screen brightness to maximum and play a longer video, the battery will drain much faster than in normal mode.

Method No. 3
In the accessibility settings, which allows you to fine-tune the appearance of the operating system for people with disabilities, there is a function to enable the display of text in bold font. After activating the "Bold font" function, the system will ask you to reboot the device, which is so necessary for us.

Go to "Settings -> General -> Accessibility" and find the "Bold" switch.

Move it to the on position... Voila - you will be asked to restart your iPhone, for which you just need to tap on the corresponding button.

Method No. 4
Another change in the settings of iOS devices that requires them to be rebooted is resetting the network settings. Do not be alarmed, this function allows you to return the Wi-Fi network settings, as well as cellular communications, to factory settings. After rebooting the device, they can be easily restored either manually or from a backup copy, which I advise you to create as often as possible.

Follow the same path, that is, to “Settings”, then to “General”, scroll to the bottom of the screen and find the “Reset” item.

Method No. 5
What should you do if your iPhone is frozen and does not respond to touches or presses on the mechanical control buttons? iPhone and any other iOS device can be forced to reboot from any state. For this:

Press and hold the Home and Power buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds. The iPhone display will go completely dark.

Release both buttons. If after this the Apple logo does not appear on the screen, briefly press the power button. The iPhone will start booting normally.

This method allows you to forcefully restart your iPhone or iPad if a software failure occurs. We advise you to use this procedure in case of emergency, and if you can get by with the remaining 2 methods, use them. Leave this one as a last resort.

Method number 6
You can control mobile devices from Apple and the iPhone in particular without mechanical control buttons. The creators took into account, although the high, but still limited resource of mechanical controls, and in case the touch display of your iPhone has outlived the control buttons, the operations for which the “mechanics” were responsible can be performed using gestures.

To enable full touch control of your iPhone, you must turn on Assistive Touch. This function allows you to flexibly configure device control using gestures and completely replaces mechanical control buttons.

Activating Assistive Touch
Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility;

"Tap" on the Assistive Touch menu icon; In the menu of this function, “tap” on the “Device” icon, and then long “tap” (touch the screen of the device and do not lift your finger) on “Screen lock” until the “Turn off” and “Cancel” buttons appear;

And then everything is the same as when turning off the iPhone in normal mode, swipe right on the “Turn Off” button. The device will begin to turn off;

How can you then turn it on if the shutdown button is faulty? Just connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable and it will turn on normally.

Method No. 7

The last way is to disassemble the iPhone and replace the battery. If you don’t have experience, it’s better to contact any service; it won’t cost much and will be quick, but the likelihood of any additional damage will be significantly less :)

As you can see, the methods for rebooting an iPhone are quite simple and do not require any additional effort.

Over several decades, Apple has released many types of the popular iPod music player, improving them from generation to generation. Devices from the Cupertino company have long been associated by users with the standard of quality. But, like any technology, Apple devices are also susceptible to various kinds of software glitches. iPod freezing is a common problem among music lovers, resulting in short-term inoperability of the iPod. Despite software improvements, users around the world still experience device crashes and don't always know what to do if their iPod freezes.

To get rid of the software freeze, you need to restart your iPod. True, each model has its own set of hot keys for rebooting. For example, to restart your iPod Touch, you need to connect it to your computer and launch iTunes on your PC. Then you should hold down two keys “Sleep” and “Home” at the same time until the Apple logo appears. iPod Touch will automatically restart and sync with your computer. All you have to do is click the “Restore” button in iTunes.

However, if you don’t have iTunes at hand, you can do a “hard reboot” that deletes all data by simultaneously holding down the “Home” and “Power” keys.

What to do if your iPod Classic freezes? Press the Menu and Select keys on the player at the same time and wait until the company logo appears on the screen. The settings on iPod Nano and iPod Video of all generations are reset in the same way. However, you need to take into account that the player’s blocking must be removed. As for the iPod Nano 6, the device “hangs” after simultaneously pressing the “POWER + VOLUME DOWN” buttons. The latest, seventh generation Nano reboots, like the iPod Touch, by simultaneously pressing the “Home” and “Power” keys.

To restart your iPod Shuffle, you need to slide the power switch to the Off position. (the green bar is not visible) and after 10 seconds move it to the “On” position. At the same time, for the first two generations of players, Apple recommends waiting 5 seconds, and for the 3rd and 4th generations – 10 seconds.

Software failures in the player can occur for various reasons. Mechanical damage, moisture getting inside the case, “wrong firmware”, overheating of the device - all this can cause the iPod to freeze. But don’t panic and immediately contact the service center. First, try restarting your iPod using the above methods, and then restore or update the firmware through iTunes. If the measures you have taken do not help fix the problem of the player freezing, then contact an authorized service center.

I was prompted to write this short instruction by questions in the comments to the article. The article itself is very useful, I strongly recommend that you read it - it will come in handy, but now we are talking about comments.

One of our readers encountered a problem: his lock/shutdown button did not work, and at the same time (which is generally strange, but anything can happen) for some reason the AssistiveTouch mode did not turn on. And the reader asked a question - how to restart the iPhone in such a situation.

We advised him to discharge the device and then connect it to a power source so that it would turn on again, but this method takes time (especially if the battery is fully charged), and, unfortunately, it is not particularly elegant. Therefore, in order to make up for the not-so-successful advice, I offer two methods at once that allow you to restart your iPhone without using either a button or AssistiveTouch. Here they are (for simplicity, we will assume that we have an iPhone, but the methods, of course, work on both iPad and iPod Touch):

Methods, as I already said 2, they are similar and are performed using standard actions. The essence of each of them is that in order to make changes to the operation of iOS specified in the device settings, a reboot is required, for which it will be enough to confirm the corresponding reboot request.

Method one

In the accessibility settings, which allows you to fine-tune the appearance of the operating system for people with disabilities, there is a function to enable the display of text in bold font. After activating the “Bold Font” function, the system will ask you to reboot the device, which is so necessary for us.

Method two

Another change in the settings of iOS devices that requires them to be rebooted is resetting the network settings. Do not be alarmed, this function allows you to return the Wi-Fi network settings, as well as cellular communications, to factory settings. After rebooting the device, they can be easily restored both manually and from which I advise you to create as often as possible.

As you can see, the methods to restart an iPhone without using any buttons or AssistiveTouch are quite simple and do not require any additional effort. Yes, of course, in the first case you will have to enjoy the bold font on the screen, and in the second you will have to re-enter the network settings. But if rebooting the iPhone is absolutely necessary, then such sacrifices can be made.

Like any electronic device, the iPod sometimes breaks down and malfunctions. Sometimes users encounter this freezing problem and wonder when iPod freezes, what to do? You should not delay solving this problem. It is advisable to quickly seek qualified help, since over time the situation only becomes more complicated. Timely help will prevent the occurrence of more serious problems.

If your iPod is frozen, there are several reasons for this and we will try to figure them out.

Software problems:

1. If your iPod freezes, it is usually due to internal software errors. First of all, try restarting your iPod MP3 player by pressing the home+power buttons. Hold them for 8 - 10 seconds. It should reboot and not freeze again after that. In most cases this helps.

2. If the iPod freezes during flashing or restoring, as a rule, this indicates that the problem is with the firmware. If the iPod Touch 5, 4 (4g, 3g) freezes when flashing the firmware, this means that you need to re-flash the player, but it is better to still seek help from a workshop where qualified technicians will do this.

3. If your iPod screen freezes during recovery, this may also indicate that there is a software failure and you need to re-flash it.

If the iPod Touch 5, 4, Nano 7, 6, Classic freezes, this may also indicate that the reason is in the hardware itself. Namely:

1. When you reboot and load your iPod, does it freeze and not respond to anything? In most cases, this means that the processor has been damaged and will need to be replaced or repaired. It is replaced complete with a flash microcircuit. We can do this for you quickly and efficiently.

2. Most often, the iPod Touch 5, 4 (4g, 3g) suffers from moisture or shock, although the problem may not immediately appear and it seems that the iPod froze for no reason when resetting the settings (although there was contact with the liquid, and you simply forgot about it ). Liquid that gets into the middle of the device can form corrosion, which in turn damages important parts.

3. As a result of a fall or other mechanical damage, components of the printed circuit board or track fail, causing the player to freeze. In order to determine the exact cause, you will need to do a comprehensive diagnosis. Our service center will carry it out as soon as possible and absolutely free.

Common operational problemsiPod

Users who purchase an iPod are faced with the fact that their device freezes when connected to a computer and does not respond to the “safe disconnection”. Most often, such difficulties are resolved by rebooting. Sometimes it is recommended to simply free the operating system from unnecessary utilities that are not used. You should definitely check it for viruses. After all these steps are completed, the device should work. But it happens that the problem lies precisely in the method of rebooting the iPod. Then you should resort to special programs. For example, "Xenoid v2.0" or "Kreyfast_1.1", which are freely available on the Internet.

When exploring different options for how to reboot your iPod classic, you can take the advice of experts from Apple, who recommend installing iTunes 10.0.1 for the Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 operating systems.

Users most often notice problems with the iPod classic, which may not be recognized by the computer, skip tracks, or not play songs. In such cases, some advise erasing the files and re-writing them from the computer. The playback quality will not suffer. Such difficulties will not arise if you have an “iPod touch”. But even here it is not possible without special settings to avoid incorrect operation of the device.

There is another problem that makes you wonder how to restart an iPod. This is when it appears in the Windows OS, but the iTunes program does not see it. To troubleshoot problems, you need to launch the Assistant and select your iPod model from the list provided.

If this does not help, you need to clear the Temp folder and to do this, select “My Computer” from the “Start” button menu. Then open drive C, find a folder called “Documents and Settings”. Here you need to double-click on the folder with the user name with the mouse button. Select “Folder Options” from the “Tools” menu and check the box next to “Show hidden files and folders.” Click "OK".

By double-clicking the mouse button, open the folder called “Local Settings”, in it - Temps and select the “Delete” command. To confirm in the window, click on the “Yes” button.

To figure out how to reset your iPod, just follow the tips below. First, you need to install iTunes (the most recent version) on your computer and connect your iPod. Find “My Computer” in the “Start” menu and select drive C. On it, find and open the folder called “Users”. Double-click on the folder with If the folder called AppData is not visible on the computer, then in the “Organize” menu you should select “Folder Options” and check the box next to the “Show hidden files and folders” action. Click "OK". Now it's time to open the AppData and Local folders. Right-click and select “Delete” from the menu and click “Yes” to confirm. After this, you can restart your computer.

If you need to know how to restart the “iPod touch” when it freezes or is not recognized by the computer, you should do the following. To update the device software, use the iTunes program. To restart your iPod, you need to turn it off while holding down the Sleep/Wake button. A red slider will appear. Moving your finger across this slider turns off the iPod. You can turn on the device using the same button and hold it until the Apple logo appears.

Once you learn how to restart an iPod, you will be able to deal with problems when using this electronic device on your own. And, perhaps, this will reduce the number of calls you make to service departments in the event of minor player malfunctions.
