Now you know the simplest methods on how to remove Samsung Knox from a smartphone or tablet. If you still decide to keep this utility, you can download the official instructions.

The Samsung brand is popular in the Russian Federation. Almost all household appliances and, of course, mobile phones are in high demand. Owners of smartphones and tablets of this brand are faced with an application such as KNOX. However, only a few know what it is intended for and how it works.

It is most often talked about on forums dedicated to firmware for Samsung devices. KNOX is installed on top of the Android platform, performing protective functions. Many buyers complain that it is not possible to obtain detailed information about this application at points of sale, even official ones. Sellers are reluctant to talk about this topic.

Why? This question is quite interesting. And in order to answer it, you will need to delve into the intricacies of the software.

KNOX - what is it?

Qualified programmers claim that all smartphone owners are not protected from hacker attacks. Their personal data is at risk. This problem becomes especially acute for users in the corporate segment. How to protect yourself? Samsung last year developed a special application, which is essentially an add-on to the operating system. Its main task is maximum protection of personal data stored on mobile devices. The KNOX system itself consists of several extensions developed on the Google platform. It is with their help that the user creates a protected environment. An important advantage of the application is the ability to use an isolated zone, secure boot and a special encryption method.

Resetting KNOX, that is, resetting the counter to zero, is not possible on all models of Samsung smartphones. Therefore, it is recommended to be extremely careful with firmware, since the application may simply not recognize it as licensed, and this will lead to complete failure of the device.

Using this application, the owner is confident that the device is completely protected from spyware, network hacking, and copying of information by third parties.

Principle of operation

KNOX (what kind of application this is is described above) is an independent component of the Android operating system. Compatible with devices starting from Galaxy S3. It is not officially installed on earlier devices, but theoretically this is possible.

How does this application work? Let's look at the example of Skype. The user must log in to the program in order to access the functions. This is done using a previously registered login and password. However, if KNOX is installed on the mobile device, a second account (additional) is created. It is he who is in the protected zone. To enter it, you will need to enter a password different from the previous one, or use an independent KNOX Account. If you delete Skype on your device, it will remain in a protected application.

Launching the application

When you turn on your Samsung tablet or smartphone, KNOX starts automatically. At this moment, the system begins checking the kernel for integrity. After its completion, the application performs a secure download. If there were no unauthorized interventions, the device will start in normal mode.

It is important to understand that KNOX is designed to block any actions that are not authorized by the owner.

Reviews

KNOX, which has mixed reviews, has both disadvantages and advantages. The advantages include a high level of protection, user-friendly interface, ease of use, blocking the device at a distance (for example, if lost) and remote search.

However, not everything is so rosy. Many tablet and mobile phone owners complain about frequent application crashes. Messages constantly appear on the screen informing you that the program is unlicensed or downloaded from an unauthorized source. Turning off notifications is quite difficult. In order to help owners of such devices, the article describes some ways to solve this problem.

How to disable KNOX?

You can often come across the question on the Internet: “How to disable KNOX?” What does it mean? The application itself will remain on the device, but annoying messages will no longer appear on the screen. If this solution suits you, then you can use three methods:

  • KNOX Disabler. Can only be used by root users. The Disabler utility is installed on the device. It's very easy to work with her. All you need to do is install, log into the application and click Disabler.
  • Titanium Backup. After starting the program, a list of files will appear on the screen. You need to select the “Freeze” option in the menu and reboot the device. If it works correctly, then you can simply delete these files.
  • Android Terminal Emulator. Install the application, launch it and enter “su pm disable com.sec.KNOX.seandroid” into the command line. In order to activate KNOX, you will need to replace disable with enable.

How to remove KNOX?

All owners who have the Android 4.3 or higher operating system installed on their mobile devices will benefit from the KNOX application. Unfortunately, it sometimes causes some inconvenience, so many people want to remove it completely. But they don’t know how to do it. Let's look at a few ways.

Let's sum it up

“The device is protected by KNOX.” What does it mean? Personal data, files and other information are not available to third parties. Thanks to this application, the owner of a smartphone or tablet can be sure of 100% protection against unauthorized entry into the device. Unfortunately, KNOX has some disadvantages. For this reason, this article provides information on how to disable it or remove it completely.

Dear friends!

This article not intendedsuitable for beginners, just starting to master this OS. Rather, on the contrary, here we will talk about serious things that will be interesting and understandable only to those who upgrades firmware their mobile devices and gained some experience and knowledge in this.

Let's talk about some unpleasant trends in the development of new OS versions Android 4.2 – 4.3 – 4.4 Jelly Bean and KitKat by the main smartphone manufacturer in the market – Samsung. I encountered these surprises in the latest version of the OS when I tried to install Root access and upgrade the Recovery mode in my new smartphone Samsung GALAXY S4 mini (I9190), purchased in early December with OS 4.2.2 on board (firmware version I9190XXUAMF7).

This article is actually topic warning who are trying to update the latest versions of the OS without delving into the changes made.

So, to the heart of the matter. It all started with that that soon after purchasing the device, I received an offer on my smartphone to update the firmware to a more recent one “over the air” (in OTA mode - On The Air). And, having no information, he agreed to it and updated it without any problems.

Everything would be good and useful for some users of the device. And one could applaud.

But it turned out that any modernization of the software system filling of a smartphone now leads to change the flagKNOX, and this the change is already irreversible: by no means can it be returned back to the zero state (at least until the best minds have found a solution to this issue). Moreover, this was done by Samsung deliberately, and it seems, not only in software, but also at the hardware level. View the state of the flag (some call it a counter) KNOXWARRANTY VOID possible on the loading screen (Odin mode). Its normal value is 0x0, modified 0x1. If you don’t have any lines about KNOX there, then everything is fine with you so far and there’s nothing to be afraid of: you still have an old bootloader.

Thus, rash actions with the firmware can lead to the flag being triggered, and this automatically means loss of warranty on the device(at least in Russia for sure).

The second unpleasant point is that lost opportunity to rollback to the previous or even earlier firmware versions. After trying to do this, the smartphone refuses to boot. You can only revert to this latest version (or to a more recent, but only stock version in the future) without triggering the counter.

The same probably needs to be said about other firmware of the latest generation 4.3 and 4.4, where this innovation from Samsung has also been introduced. It turns out that this respected company is sliding towards the trends of Microsoft and Apple. The latter has always been known for tightly controlling anything that could lead to changes in its products, from computer cases that cannot be opened to the inability of users to change its software. They determined how we should live and what we should use. And not ourselves. Now the previously very democratic Samsung is starting to do this.

A detailed discussion of the issue raised in relation to Android 4.3 firmware for the Galaxy S4.

What's the conclusion?

1. If you still have an old version of the firmware and an old bootloader (bootloader) and you do not have any inscriptions about KNOX.

If you want to change the firmware, you can sew and experiment without fear. You can return everything to Official at any time!

The main thing is NOT to flash a bootloader (aka bootloader, aka sboot.bin) from 4.3, which by default is flashed along with firmware 4.3(and others similar to Knox)!

2. If you, like me, have already had the imprudence to flash new firmware, including the bootloader with Knox. The options are:

a) Do nothing and stay on the new firmware. Don't upgrade it and wait for new stock ones.

b) Wait for the solution to the question of how to change the bootloader and/or remove KNOX from it, or how to return the clicked counter back. There is no solution yet. You can wait a long time.

c) Don’t give a damn about the counter triggering, lose the warranty and do what you want. But without a guarantee of success due to the unpredictability of Knox's reaction. For example, it can block an attempt to install Root. Or display warning notices, etc.

These are my warnings to you, dear lovers of experimentation. If you want to discuss the situation, there are comments. Write them down.

Good luck to you, see you again on the pages of the site.
