How to disable auto-on screen on iPhone 7. How to overcome the “black screen of death” on iPhone

Raise to Wake is a new feature in iOS 10 that automatically turns on your iPhone's screen every time you pick it up and tilt it towards you. This is a very useful feature if you often take your phone only to check notifications or time. Instead of using the Home button, you can simply hold the phone in your hand and tilt it towards you, thereby activating the screen.

Raise to Wake is one of my favorite iOS 10 features, as pressing the Lock button or Home button to view notifications or the time is not always convenient. In addition, given the features of TouchID, it is not always possible to simply press Home to view the time, because... The phone automatically unlocks and you are taken to the home screen.

The main thing to know about the new Raise to Activate feature is that it only works on certain iPhone models:

  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

If your iPhone is not on this list, then unfortunately it means that Raise to Activate is not supported on your device. If you have one of the above devices, then check out the guide to learn how to enable or disable Raise to Activate on iPhone.

The Raise to Activate feature is enabled by default, but if you find it annoying or don't like it, you can turn it off in Settings.

How to disable “Raise to Activate”

Step 1: Go to Settings.

Step 2: Find the Screen and Brightness item and go to it.

Step 3: Toggle “Raise to Activate” if you want to disable it, otherwise enable it.

If you choose to turn off Raise to Wake, your iPhone's screen will no longer turn on when you pick it up and tilt it. If it is turned on, the device will automatically wake up as soon as you pick it up.

What do you think about this feature? Is it useful or just drains the battery?

When you buy a new iPhone, sooner or later you find functions that you were not familiar with before. Overall, Apple does a pretty good job, with most of them being quite useful.

Another function of this kind is “Raise to Activate”. Many people don’t know what it is and, most importantly, how to turn it on or off.

Let's get to know a little about the purpose for which this function was created and what needs to be done to get rid of it, if necessary.

What does "raise to activate" mean?

If you have at least an iPhone 6S, then you have probably noticed that when you lift your smartphone, the screen automatically lights up.

This is the implementation of this point. It was made mainly for three purposes: to view notifications, use the “Control Center” or swipe left to call up the camera and take a couple of pictures.

If you don’t do anything and just put the phone back in your pocket (on the table), then the screen goes dark. For some this is quite useful and they take advantage of it.

But if it annoys you and you want to turn it off as quickly as possible, then let's do it.

How to enable/disable Raise to Activate on iPhone?

You may not immediately be able to find how to disable Raise to Activate. But as always happened on the iPhone, this can be done literally in a matter of seconds.

We follow these steps:

Now, when you pick up your phone, its screen will no longer light up. But if you suddenly want to try again, then we follow exactly the same steps.

For normal operation of devices that require Bluetooth, disable the wireless protocol first. This is one of the most power-hungry features of iOS.

Support.apple.com

You can disconnect from Bluetooth devices directly through the control center, which opens by swiping your finger across the screen from bottom to top. But you can completely deactivate the sensor only through the system settings.

2. Disable LTE

When your cellular provider only gives you 1 or 2 GB of data per month, turning off 4G service can help save it - not to mention battery life. But even if there is a lot of traffic, many public places still have Wi-Fi.

To disable LTE, go to settings, open the “Cellular” item and click on the corresponding switch there. You can also block 4G for the most power-hungry applications, such as Music or Photos. This is done through the settings of each of them.

3. Turn off unnecessary notifications

Leave alerts only for the most important applications and functions that always require instant checking. Disable the rest to save battery. This can be done through the “Notifications” section in iOS settings.

4. Turn off automatic brightness and turn on Grayscale

Lowering your screen brightness is one of the best ways to save battery power. To prevent your iPhone from constantly changing the brightness you have chosen, turn off auto-adjustment. To do this, go to system settings in “General” → “Universal Access” → “Display Adaptation” → “Auto Brightness”.

In the same section, through the “Filters” item, you can turn on “Shades of Gray” so that the screen becomes black and white. This way your eyes will tire less, and your phone will begin to consume less energy.

5. Set brightness to 10-25%

Using the control center, set the desired brightness. For most cases, 10–25% is sufficient. If necessary, for example in the sun, it can be quickly adjusted.

6. Turn on Reduce Motion

In Accessibility, turn on the Reduce Motion switch. This feature simplifies the animation you see when you press the home button and also removes the parallax effect that causes wallpapers, apps, and alerts to move slightly.

When you turn on Reduce Motion, a toggle for Message Effects (Auto) will appear. Turn it off too. Pop-up and full-screen effects will now need to be played manually, but the phone will last longer.

7. Disable 3D Touch

In the same “Universal Access” you will find the function. It can be useful, but vibration from it uses up battery power every time. After disabling it, you will have to hold your finger on the screen to use some iPhone features, and some features like folder previews will disappear.

8. Turn off all vibration effects

In the "Universal Access" item there is a button to turn off all vibration effects - even for calls. Or you can turn off vibration in silent mode. To do this, return to the main system settings screen, open “Sounds, haptics” and deactivate vibration in silent mode. Vibration will now only be turned off when you press the Ring/Silent switch on the side of the device.

You can also disable the “Shake to Undo” feature. You will find it in the “Universal Access” section. As you might guess, using it you can cancel the last action, for example entering a character. But in practice, it is much more convenient and faster to correct errors manually. But vibration will not consume charge.

9. Disable Content Updates for Unneeded Apps

Through “General” → “Content Update” you can specify which programs’ content should be updated, even when they are minimized. Leave the function enabled only for applications that take a long time to sync (Dropbox, Evernote) or are useful for traveling (Google Maps).

10. Set auto-lock to one minute

The longer your phone screen stays lit, the more battery is wasted. Open "Display & Brightness" in iOS settings and set auto-lock to one minute.

11. Disable Raise to Activate

When the device screen is not active, energy is saved. There is no need to waste it every time you take it. Just below Auto-Lock, turn off the Raise to Activate feature. Now the display will light up only when you press the home button or side unlock button.

12. Turn off Siri

13. Disable “Power Saving Mode”

As surprising as it may sound, the battery may drain faster in this mode. iPhone automatically sends an alert when the battery charge drops below 20% and prompts you to turn the feature on. You may notice that often with a positive answer, the battery charge quickly decreases - sometimes to such an extent that the smartphone turns off.

Disable “Power Saving Mode” via “Settings” → “Battery”. A worthy alternative is airplane mode. By the way, while you haven’t left this menu yet, you can at the same time activate “Charge in percentage” so that you always know exactly how long the battery will last.

14. Turn off Location Services for unnecessary apps

By default, many programs track your data, but most do not need this to work properly. Through iOS settings, open “Privacy” → “Location Services”. For apps like the App Store, Dropbox, and Evernote, select Never, and for those that require GPS, select Using.

15. Stop sending analytics data to Apple

When this feature is enabled, iPhone automatically creates analytics files daily. This also affects the battery charge. Go to Settings → Privacy, scroll down the screen and tap Analysis. Then remove both switches.

16. Disable "Automatic Downloads"

In Settings, open your Apple ID and find the “iTunes Store and App Store” section. In it, remove all automatic downloads. After this, the smartphone will stop downloading purchases that you made on other Apple devices.

17. Enable data downloads for Mail and Calendar over Wi-Fi only

Open “Accounts and Passwords” in the settings and in the “Data download” section, disable Push. Activate "Sampling" for all applications and select "Automatic". iPhone will now download new data for Mail and Calendar in the background only when connected to Wi-Fi and power.

18. Enable “Low Quality Mode” in “Messages”

At the very bottom of the Messages settings there is an option for “Low Quality Mode”. If you activate it, the standard messenger will send compressed pictures. This way you will save time and battery power.

19. Disable Game Center

Game Center is not only annoying with its notifications, but also wastes battery power if you log into the service. If you are not an avid gamer, then deactivate the function at the bottom of the iOS settings.

Why does the iPhone 6s screen light up spontaneously? This question confuses many users, even those who have dealt with previous Apple technology. This fact in itself is not a reason to suspect a malfunction. On the contrary, this is one of the “tricks” characteristic of new smartphones.

7 and SE only to make life easier for the owner. At least according to the developers from Cupertino. Now there is no need to unlock your phone by pressing a button. It reacts to movement and activates itself. However, not everyone likes this “initiative” of owning their own phone. Disabling the function is quite simple - Settings - Screen - Raise to activate.

But if the “Lift” option is disabled, there is likely a malfunction of one kind or another. VseEkrany.RU specialists will tell you how to check your phone for correct operation.

iPhone 6s diagnostics and common problems

Despite impressive sales around the world, new iPhones can no longer boast the same reliability as the models made under Jobs. Almost every iOS update presents users with “surprises” that generate a negative information background.

It’s unpleasant that problems appear, but the manufacturer can also understand that if you spend too much time on debugging, you will fall behind your competitors.

If the picture freezes, it’s worth checking whether the problem is with the software. To do this, you need to create a copy of your data, perform a factory reset, and install the latest version of iOS. The method, of course, is suitable for those who know what they are doing. Inexperienced users are better off turning to professionals. And if flashing is required, we strongly do not recommend trying to do it yourself, even if you still have an iPhone 3.

If the problem is not resolved, the phone needs diagnostics. In a good way, it should be done in case of any malfunction. Whether the glass is damaged as a result of a fall, whether spots and streaks have appeared, whether the lock screen has stopped turning on - only professional diagnostics carried out by service center engineers will identify the problem.

Often harmless symptoms hide a serious problem. If the screen periodically goes out and does not turn on immediately, the backlight or the motherboard controller responsible for it may be broken. And if the screen rotation freezes on the iPhone 6s, the accelerometer is not working properly. And so on.

The VseEkrany.ru company will provide professional diagnostics to your device for free. Part of our engineers' professional ethics is to first identify the problem and then provide a solution. Repairs are not imposed on the client if there is no breakdown or it can be fixed in 5 minutes. Any cables that have popped out or incorrect basic settings will be corrected for free.

If you have problems with your device, get a free consultation from VseEkrana.ru managers by phone or through the online form on the website.

Every release of a new operating system comes with a bunch of quirks and annoying features. iOS 10 is no exception, but fortunately, most of these “features” can be easily fixed.

Unlocking your phone now works completely differently. "Make a slide with your finger across the screen"has now completely disappeared and is unlikely to ever return. Now you have to click on the button Home to unlock your phone. If you don’t want to constantly press the Home button to unlock, this can be easily fixed. To do this, do the following:

  • Go to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Accessibility” -> “Home”.
  • Enable the option "Opening by placing a finger".

Now your phone will unlock when you place your finger on the Home button. You no longer need to press it.

Turn off the ability to reply to messages from the lock screen

If you're concerned about your privacy and you're not a fan of how easy it is to reply to messages from the lock screen, then you can disable this feature:

  • Open “Settings” -> “Touch ID and passcode”.
  • Enter your password.
  • Go lower to "Reply with message" and turn off this option.

You will no longer be able to reply to messages from the lock screen, which will help protect your privacy. There are also other applications that can reveal themselves somehow on the lock screen. So be very careful with them. If you don't feel comfortable with apps that can be controlled from the lock screen, then don't let notifications appear there.

Turn off Raise to Wake feature

This feature automatically turns on the screen backlight when you pick up the phone, but it doesn't do it for everyone. If you are tired of it or it turns on the screen too often, or at the wrong time, then you can simply turn it off:

  • Head to “Settings” -> “Display and brightness”
  • Disable the option "Raise to activate."

Clear Spotlight search results

For some reason, Spotlight likes to save your searches when you go to the search menu. It shows you ALL your search queries. There is no option to delete them as such. However, you can disable this feature:

  • Head to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Spotlight Search”
  • Uncheck the box next to " Siri Suggestions."

This will of course disable search suggestions in Spotlight, but it will at least clear the cache of search queries.

Prevent apps from automatically being added to messages

Messages now has its own iMessages app store, where you can add various small utilities and stickers to your messages. In addition, older apps can add their own iMessage extensions.

For example, the popular Yelp app and OpenTable both have iMessage extensions that let you search for restaurants directly from Messages. This is of course great, but unfortunately the settings iOS 10 make the addition of these extensions automatic, without your participation. It can be fixed:

  • Open "Messages" and click on the arrow icon -> " Applications".
  • Click on the four circles icon in the lower left corner. Then to the Store icon.
  • Click on the panel "Control".
  • Switch "Automatically add applications" to position "Switch off".

Now you will need to independently add the applications that you want to use.

Disable Safari Autofill for Contact Information and Email

IN Safari now a special QuickType a keyboard that gives suggestions for personal information when you fill out any forms. This is convenient for some people, but a hindrance for everyone else. This can be disabled:

  • Go to “Settings” -> “Safari” -> “Autofill”.
  • Turn off “Use contact information, names, passwords and credit cards.”

More Safari will not offer you autocomplete for forms.

Disable Reduce Motion if effects don't work

If you're playing around with the new messaging app and can't open the effects panel, then there's a good chance you have the option turned on. "Reduce movement". To return these effects, do the following.
