Design

Read also: What is the difference between iPhone 6 and 6s and 6 Plus - Comparing iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 Plus

The design is not much different from the seventh model. The smartphones are almost identical to each other, with the exception of size.

Due to the introduction of wireless charging, the back panel was again made of glass, but not ordinary glass, but heavy-duty glass with an olephobic coating that prevents dirt from sticking to the surface of the case.

If, nevertheless, dirt appears on the body, the coating allows you to easily remove it.

On the front panel there will be, as usual, a central round Home button.

The end part of the smartphone case will remain metal in order to avoid significant damage if dropped.

There is also no 3.5 mm headphone jack, just like in the “seven”.

On the left side there are volume buttons and a silent mode switch, and on the right is the power button, which at the same time is a screen lock button.

Dimensions

The sizes of these models differ markedly from each other. The iPhone 8 plus is distinguished not only by its large size, but also by its weight.

The weight differs from the “eight” by 54 grams. On the one hand, it seems that this is not much. But when compared, this difference is felt.

The iPhone 8 measures 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm and weighs only 148 grams, while the iPhone 8 Plus measures 158.4 x 78.1 x 7.5 mm and weighs 202 grams.

From the listed dimensions, it is obvious that the iPhone 8 Plus, indeed, larger sizes compared to the "eight", even though the thickness differs by only 0.2 mm.

In this case, the same situation exists as with “sevens”. The first one is much smaller in size than the second one.

Screen

The differences did not ignore the diagonal and characteristics of the screens of the presented models.

The iPhone 8 has a screen diagonal of 4.7 inches, while its “big brother” is 5.5 inches. Both models have liquid crystal displays with IPS matrices.

The screen resolution of the iPhone 8 is 1334x750 pixels and their density is 326 ppi, while the 8 Plus model has 1920x1080 pixels and their density is 401 ppi. The contrast of the displays is also different.

For the G8 it is 1400:1, and for the older model it is 1300:1. The displays do not differ in brightness; it is 625 cd/m2 for both models.

In other respects, the screens are identical for both smartphones. For example, both use True Tone color temperature adaptation technology.

It's also worth noting that there is 3D Touch and a P3 color gamut that is more enhanced.

The viewing angle is expanded thanks to dual-domain pixels. The display has a protective olephobic coating.

Cameras

The most important difference between smartphones is their cameras.. The iPhone 8 has a camera with one main lens with a resolution of 12 megapixels and an f/1.8 aperture.

Optical image stabilization is supported for photo and video shooting.

At the same time, the iPhone 8 Plus has two cameras – a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. Each of them has a resolution of 12 megapixels. The wide-angle lens has an f/1.8 aperture, and the telephoto lens has an f/2.8 aperture.

Thanks to the new technology of using two lenses in the smartphone camera, many useful functions are supported:

  • 2x optical zoom;
  • tenfold digital zoom;
  • "portrait" mode;
  • portrait lighting.

Portrait mode was first introduced in the iPhone 7 Plus. He allows you to create unique images with depth of field effect.

In still photographs, the subject remains sharp and the background is naturally blurred.

Before the advent of this mode in Apple smartphones, such pictures could only be created using professional SLR cameras.

Also The latest development is portrait lighting. For now, it will only be used in the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

This “trick” allows you to change the lighting with one touch in “portrait” mode. The G8 does not have this option, since it only has one lens.

When shooting video, the quality of smartphones is absolutely the same and has several resolutions:

  • 4K at 24/30/60 fps;
  • 1080p at 30/60 fps;
  • 720p at 30 frames per second.

A significant difference in the models' video capabilities is that the iPhone 8 Plus can use optical zoom and six times digital zoom.

There is absolutely no difference in the front cameras. They are identical for both models.

Is iPhone X worth the money? This is a question worth asking before purchasing an iPhone. After all, Apple is selling the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which have many of the same features as the iPhone X for much less money. What if you have an iPhone 7 that's only one year old? Is the iPhone X really that much better? Comparing iPhone 7 vs iPhone X, what are the differences?

iPhone X (left) Vs iPhone 7 (right)

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Displays

While there is a lot to discuss about the differences between the iPhone X and iPhone 7, let's start with the display that will grab your attention first:

  • iPhone X – 5.8-inch 18.5:9 True Tone OLED, 2436 x 1125 pixels (458 ppi), 82.9% screen-to-body ratio
  • iPhone 7 – 4.7-inch 16:9 True Tone LCD, 1334 x 750 pixels (326 ppi), 65.6% screen-to-body ratio
  • iPhone 7 Plus – 5.5-inch 16:9 True Tone LCD, 5.5in with 1920x1080 pixels resolution at 401ppi

While the longer aspect ratio means the 1.1-inch difference between these phones isn't as big as it might seem. The iPhone X is a big step forward, and this only increases the technological differences between the models.

The screen change is OLED, which offers improved contrast compared to the LCD panel in the iPhone 7 (1,000,000:1 versus 1,400:1), and this opens the door to HDR support in services like iTunes, Netflix and Amazon.

The iPhone X display is the most amazing upgrade yet.

The iPhone X display is also brighter (thanks to increased pixel density) and more accurate, as it incorporates Apple's True Tone technology (the color of which balances screen brightness by scanning ambient light) and was first introduced on the iPad Pro.

It's worth noting that Apple is trying to catch up to Android rivals, which have been using OLED for years (and at higher 2K resolutions of 2960 x 1440), but the iPhone X's display is nonetheless a big step up from the iPhone 7.

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Dimensions

While the iPhone X's display is eye-catching, what you'll immediately notice is how different it is compared to the iPhone 7:

  • iPhone X – 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm (5.65 x 2.79 x 0.30 inches) and 174 g (6.14 oz)
  • iPhone 7 – 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm (5.44 x 2.64 x 0.28 inches) and 138 g (4.87 oz)
  • iPhone 7 Plus – 158.2mm x 77.9mm x 7.3mm and 188g

Yes, there is a noticeable difference in weight, but not the iPhone 8 Plus (202g/7.13oz). The obvious reason for this is that the iPhone X has almost completely eliminated the top and bottom bezels that have characterized the iPhone for the last 10 years - and it looks fantastic. But it's not all good news.

There is another controversial point. The iPhone X replaced the aluminum back with glass, which was not used since the iPhone 4S in 2011. The electrical conductivity of glass allows for wireless charging, but it's glass so there's a risk of breaking and repairs cost more and add weight.

However, the rest of the iPhone X is just as solid as the iPhone 7. It has iP67 water and dust resistance (capable of being fully submerged up to 1 meter for 30 minutes). The iPhone X also has 25% louder dual speakers, although the headphone jack has not returned (it never did).

iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are all IP67, water and dust resistant

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Performance

It's quite amazing that the iPhone in 2016 remained the fastest smartphone in the world right up until the launch of the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (all of which use the same chipset).

iPhone X and iPhone 8 – Apple A11 “Bionic” chipset: six-core processor, M11 motion coprocessor, 3 GB RAM (iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus), 2 GB RAM (iPhone 8)

Apple claims you'll get 25% and 30% more CPU and GPU (iPhone) performance compared to the iPhone 7. But more importantly, you'll also get 70% better performance when multitasking (what you do all day when switching between applications) and another 70% faster speed when the A11 chipset is idle. No Android rival will beat the A11 until 2019.

Apple A11 Bionic is the most powerful smartphone chipset ever created and powers the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

You'll find that the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus also have an extra gigabyte of RAM, but don't get too excited. Memory is consumed by the extra pixels on their higher resolution displays and dual cameras. In the real world, the performance of the iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 will be almost the same.

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Face ID vs Touch ID

But the A11 chipset also has another trick up its sleeve: incorporating the most advanced facial recognition system ever seen on a smartphone. Key to this is the A11's neural engine, which can process up to 600 billion operations per second to "learn" your face and still identify you when you're wearing a hat or growing a goatee. None of this information is sent to Apple.

Face ID on iPhone X performs a 3D scan of your face.

The iPhone X and iPhone 7 Plus have the same amount of RAM (3GB), but beyond that, the specs are very different. The iPhone X is powered by Apple's A11 Bionic chip with its Neural engine. This is 70% faster than the A10 Fashion found in the iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone X also comes in larger storage sizes: 64GB or 256GB versus the 32GB or 128GB found in the iPhone 7 Plus.

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Cameras

On paper, the main 12MP, f/1.8 aperture wide rear camera and 7MP, f/2.2 front camera appear unchanged, but in reality they feature entirely new lenses and use Apple's first ISP (Image Signal Processor), which provides significantly better results – especially in low light.

Google Pixel 2 (Left). Apple iPhone 8 Plus (Center). Google Pixel (Right)

And that doesn't even touch on the iPhone X's most obvious camera advantage: the 12-megapixel telephoto lens on the back. Like the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus, it offers 2x optical zoom, but has a faster aperture (f/2.4 vs. f/2.8) and optical image stabilization (OIS) that set it apart from any dual camera Apple has ever done.

Ever since they launched Portrait mode, it has been a big success for Apple and the rear cameras on the iPhone X back will take the iPhone X to new levels. Additionally, Apple has also added portrait mode compatibility with the iPhone X's front camera.

The iPhone X and iPhone 7 Plus are pretty identical. Both have a 12-megapixel dual-lens wide-angle and telephoto rear camera that offers optical image stabilization and optical zoom. However, the iPhone X has dual optical image stabilization, while the iPhone 7 Plus only takes into account one optical image stabilization.

Both devices also have the same front camera, a 7-megapixel camera that also records 1080p HD video. However, the iPhone X's front camera has a few more features. It can use Apple's new Portrait Mode, Portrait Lighting (beta), and Animoji features in iOS 11. The iPhone 7 Plus camera doesn't have access to it.

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Battery Life and Charging

The iPhone X also improves on battery life over the iPhone 7. They're not as dramatic as you might expect, but the iPhone X essentially sits halfway between the endurance of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

The differences in iPhone X vs iPhone 7 batteries are most noticeable in charging.

The iPhone X has a slightly smaller battery (2,716 mAh) than the iPhone 7 Plus (2,900 mAh). But this hardly matters in terms of usability of both devices. However, one of the main differences is that the iPhone X has wireless charging, which the iPhone 7 Plus does not. Here's how battery life compares between the two for talk time, standby time, internet use, video playback, and audio playback:

Talk time: iPhone X – 21 hours. iPhone 7 Plus – 21 hours.

Internet use: iPhone X – up to 12 hours. iPhone 7 Plus – up to 13 hours.

Video playback: iPhone X – up to 13 hours. iPhone 7 Plus – up to 14 hours.

Audio playback: iPhone X – up to 60 hours. iPhone 7 Plus – up to 60 hours.

And yet, battery life is the least interesting part of the iPhone X. Instead, it's worth noting that Apple has caught up with the competition by finally adding fast charging and wireless charging, although both bring good news and bad news.

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Wireless Charging

The good news is that wired fast charging is competitive (it delivers up to 50% charge in 30 minutes). And wireless charging is compatible with Qi, the world's most popular wireless charging standard, which you'll find in many cafes, airplanes, etc. More about the new fast charging on iPhone X and iPhone 8.

The bad news involves two of Apple's famous gimmicks: price and the company's obsession with proprietary technology.

iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus support wireless charging

The problem is pricing: Apple doesn't include a fast charger or even a fast-charging cable in the iPhone X—the former will cost $49, and the latter $25 (one meter) or $35 (two meters). This is sad considering the price of the iPhone X.

Apple's support for Qi charging only works at 5W at best (even though Qi has 7.5W and 15W standards). Apple will retain faster wireless charging speeds for its own AirPower wireless charging standard, which won't launch until 2018.

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Memory and price

And now the part you're afraid of: the price. So let's find out:

iPhone X – 64GB ($999) (79,990), 256GB ($1,149)

iPhone 7 Plus – 32GB ($749) (57,990), 128GB ($869) (66,990)

iPhone 7 – 32GB ($549)(46,990), 128GB ($649)(55,990)

That's right, you'll pay nearly double the price of the iPhone 7 (Apple dropped $100 after the iPhone 8 launched) and iPhone X. You'll have twice the storage for that significant extra cost.

iPhone X design has a significant list price

What's more, the iPhone iPhone 8 (64GB - $699, 256GB - $849) offers upgrades under $300 and a familiar form factor (with Touch ID), while even the iPhone 8 Plus ( 64GB – $799, 256GB) – $949) suddenly seems reasonable compared to the iPhone X.

Note: iPhone X supplies will also be extremely limited throughout 2017, with shortages continuing into 2018. This way at least there is time to save.

The iPhone X is Apple's most exciting update in years, but it's not the smartest.

iPhone 7 Plus vs iPhone 7 vs iPhone X – Conclusion

At first glance, there's no doubt that the iPhone X is Apple's most exciting new iPhone for years, and the temptation to buy will be high. It's also better than the iPhone 7 in almost every way, except for the loss of Touch ID and that polarized glass.

The Flipside is an iPhone 7 that remains a superior phone, and you get the performance of the iPhone X. Also the front and wide-angle shooting from the cheaper $300 iPhone 8, which suggests it's a smarter buy. But is the iPhone 8 really as good as the iPhone X? Of course not.

Logic suggests that iPhone 7 owners wait until the second-generation iPhone X comes out in 2018, or non-owners save themselves about $500 by buying the iPhone 7 at its new price.

This year, the price of a top-end smartphone from Apple has reached a thousand dollars, causing many to question whether it is worth that kind of money.

Not all people are ready to spend such amounts on a smartphone and began to look for alternative options. Today I want to compare iPhone X, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. All the same, the Seven was last year’s flagship and I think many are interested in how much they differ from the iPhone 10. In this article I will talk about how these models differ, which one is better to buy today.

How is iPhone X different from iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus?

Since the presentation of the iPhone 6, Apple has shown us the same design of its devices. And this year we received a completely new and different smartphone. Let’s look at how iPhone 10 differs from last year’s flagships.

Design

A frameless display in 2018 will no longer surprise anyone, and Apple in this regard only has to catch up with its competitors. They called it iPhone X, and added several new features to make it different from other smartphones.

The iPhone 10 is smaller in size than the iPhone 7 Plus, but has a slightly larger screen. This was achieved through a frameless display. This year, developers from Apple introduced OLED technology for the first time, which paid dividends. Today, the top ten have the best screen among all smartphones on the market.

The truth is that the black stripe at the top is a little annoying, which slightly interferes with watching videos, playing games and reading books. But as practice shows, you get used to this band after some time. There was no other way to install a bunch of sensors and a camera without increasing the size of the device. By the way, in the future the company promised to reduce this band.

The camera has now become vertical instead of horizontal and, moreover, sticks out too much from the body. The choice of colors is also quite scarce; at the moment the smartphone is available in only two colors: silver and black.

By the way, the front panel of both models is made in black. So if you carry the device in a case, you won't see the difference.

If earlier the back cover was made of aluminum, now it is glass. But we’ll talk about why this was done a little later.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are better than the previous generation, but the main features remain unchanged, so you shouldn't expect much new experiences.

Performance

Of course, every new generation of Apple smartphones receives a new processor. The iPhone X runs on the A11 Bionic, while the sevens have the A10 Fusion.

It’s hard to argue with the fact that the A11 works much faster. But at the moment, you're unlikely to find a game or app that the iPhone 7 can't handle.

Despite all the updates, iOS 11 is far from ideal. And it lags equally on both iPhone 5s and iPhone X

Comparing the speed of iPhone X and iPhone 7 Plus

Camera

The camera gets better and better every year. The progress is especially noticeable in video shooting. Now it is possible to shoot 4K video at 24, 30 or 60 frames per second. By the way, both cameras now have optical image stabilization.

iPhone X camera

The main problem has always been night photography. With this, everything also became somewhat better. There is noticeably less noise in the pictures, which was very annoying in older models.

Well, you can’t ignore the Portrait Lighting function, which is still in beta and allows you to play with shadows.

Comparison of iPhone X and iPhone 7 Plus camera

Safety

If previously you had to constantly press your finger to unlock your smartphone, now your face is used to do this. Do you need to unlock a device or make a purchase? Just take a look at your smartphone and voila, you're done.

This technology is called Face ID. It was its implementation that created the black bar on the screen that I already talked about. This strip contains a TrueDepth camera system that scans your face and creates a model of it.

The technology, of course, is not yet perfect, but over time it works better and better. It will be installed in future iPhone models.

Also worth mentioning is Animoji, which uses this technology along with the front camera. We get a talking poop and other animations that completely repeat your head and face movements.

Battery

Of course, many are concerned about the issue of autonomy of the new iPhone. In this regard, a dozen battery life is approximately in the middle between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. And with their autonomy everything was quite good.

I hope you haven't forgotten that the back panel of the iPhone 10 is made of glass. This is made to use wireless charging.

Well, it’s worth saying a few words about fast charging, which allows you to charge your smartphone up to 50 percent in just half an hour. But for this you will have to purchase additional accessories.

Which is better to choose: iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone X?

Now we get to the most important question, which smartphone is better to buy in the end. I will try to answer it in as much detail as possible to make it easier for you to decide.

For many, when choosing smartphones, price is one of the most important factors. iPhone X costs about 80 thousand rubles in Russia with a minimum amount of memory. And whether it’s worth paying that much for a smartphone is up to you to decide.

With the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, everything is much simpler. After all, having bought one of these models, you will definitely understand that every penny spent is not in vain and you will be very pleased with it.

That's all for me. I hope my article helped you with choosing a smartphone.

  1. The display is a rectangle with rounded corners. The diagonal of this rectangle, excluding the curves, is 5.85 inches (for iPhone XS), 6.46 inches (for iPhone XS Max), 6.06 inches (for iPhone XR) or 5.85 inches (for iPhone X). The actual viewing area is smaller.
  2. iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR are tested in specially maintained laboratory conditions per IEC 60529. iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are IP68 rated (allowable). diving to a depth of up to 2 meters for up to 30 minutes); for iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X and iPhone XR - IP67 index (allowed for immersion to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes). Apple introduced iPhone 7 yesterday. What came true and what didn’t in comparison with last year’s flagship of the company – iPhone 6s? While many of the features are identical, there are a few updates that users will no doubt love.

1 – size

The length, width or thickness of the case has not changed either by a percentage or by a millimeter.

2 – weight

But the newcomer became 5 grams lighter (or 4 percent): 138 grams versus 142.

3 – building

Yes, yes, all the same aluminum. Only now the plastic strips for the antennas have been removed from the body. The antennas themselves were moved inside the housing.

4 – colors

5 – display

Almost nothing has changed with the display. Still the same 4.7 inches, still the same type - IPS (although they promise that it is now 25 percent brighter), the same resolution of 1334 by 750 pixels with a density of 326 units (while competitors already offer 4k- displays), the same understanding of the force of pressing the screen thanks to 3D touch technology.

6 – battery

No one has any idea yet about the capacity of the new iPhone 7 battery. They just say it will last 2 hours longer. The iPhone6s had 1715 mAh. Has fast or wireless charging been added? No.

7 – headphone jack

Someone said that the headphone jack would be removed because the new case would be too thin for them (like, for example, the Moto Z). But, as you can see above, the dimensions of the case have not changed even a millimeter, and the headphones on the iPhone 7 have still been removed. The reason is largely different.

8 – water protection

The fact is that the new case is still waterproof and dustproof according to IP68 certification, which allows the new iPhone to dive to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. The headphone jack hindered this in many ways.

9 – cameras

The main camera has received internal updates. The front camera has an improved sensor by 2 megapixels. The lens on the main camera has also become better – 1.8 versus 2.2 F, which allows it to capture more light. Optical image stabilization has appeared. It’s difficult to say how the update overall affected the quality of the footage. Stay tuned for the full review to come.

10 – fingerprint sensor

Touch ID, according to the company, has become a little faster. It's still on the front-facing physical Home key. The Home button itself has become more versatile, adding navigation functionality.

11 – RAM

No one also has any idea how much RAM Apple has allocated for its new iPhone. The old one had 2 GB of RAM. Probably nothing has changed.

12 – processor

What has definitely changed is the processor. Apple says it's twice as fast and has twice the graphics power. Looking at the quad-core A10 after the dual-core A9, it's easy to believe. However, the operating clock frequency is still unknown.

13 – built-in memory

14 – mobile payments

Nothing has changed, Apple Pay support is still the same.

15 – release

The newcomer iPhone 7 comes out exactly a year after the release of the iPhone 6s - in September 2016.

16 – software

Both smartphones are moving to iOS 10, which starts rolling out on September 13th. So the new iPhone will get it straight out of the box, and the old one as an upgrade. But the meaning is the same.

17 – initial price and withdrawal

If you take the old case, remove the plastic antennas from it (placing it inside), remove the headphone jack completely, waterproof it, change the processor and replace the cameras, and add $100 to the price tag, you will get a new iPhone 7. Perhaps it has more RAM or battery. Nothing else new. Not a very significant step in updating in a year.

Expect more from the iPhone 7 Plus.
